Yendi: Confusion Rocks between Constituency Chairman and Faruok Aliu Mahama

The Yendi constituency chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abubakari Salifu popularly known as ‘Chairman Nam’ and Alhaji Faruok Aliu Mahama are on each other’s throat over the decision by the Yendi constituency executives to go against the directives by the National Executives.

The General Secretary of the NPP John Boadu at a media engagement stated that the upcoming Primaries of the party would be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020 on Electoral Area basis per the Electoral Commission.

He indicated that the Primaries shall be conducted in strict compliance with the Covid-19 health protocols announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo. Accordingly, the Party, is also making sure that not more than 100 people congregates at a Voting Centre.

However, it is reported that the executives of the Yendi constituency led by Chairman Nam are planning to bus all the delegates to one particular place for the elections.

It is alleged that a meeting was held over the past few days over this issue by the constituency executives, and the aspiring candidates however ended up with halfway, because some of the aspirants disagreed with the decision of the executives to bus all the delegates to one venue for the elections.

Chairman Nam explaining their decision to defy the national executives directives on Diamond FM Power Drive with host Mohammed Ibn Abdallah however, described Alhaji Faruok Aliu Mahama as ‘arrogant’. He alleged that Alhaji Faruok whom they tip as a favorite candidate among the three aspirants insulted him and call him names after the meeting.

“He thinks he is smart; he is arrogant and does not respect elderly people. He Alhaji Faruok insulted me; he said am stupid”, Chairman Nam alleged.

He said all the stakeholders and other aspirants are agreeing to the decision, but he does not understand why some people are kicking against it.

“Our decision is simple. We are going to convey at one particular place, but we are not going to camp them at one place. Rather, we are planning to group them, so that they will vote in that order, we are trying to make things easy for everybody”, he explained.

Chairman Nam however assured that he is ready to work with all the three candidates who emerged victorious come Saturday 20th June, 2020.
