Yagaba/Kubori MP gives financial support to 200 tertiary students in his constituency

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Honorable Mustapha Ussif, through his Empowerment Foundation has given financial support to 200 tertiary students in his constituency.

The beneficiary students, who were drawn from across the constituency, received GHS 1,000.00 each from the Minister.

A total of Two Hundred Thousand Ghana cedis (GHS 200,000) was disbursed to the students from the MPs Empowerment Foundation.

Diamondfmonline.com understands that the gesture is in recognition of the MP’s Special Initiative on education. And the sponsorship is the first of its kind in the Yagaba/Kubori Constituency of the North East Region.

The minister who doubles as Member of Parliament for Yagaba/Kubori Constituency in his speech at a short ceremony said the initiative forms part of his efforts to enhance education in the area.

He underscored the importance of education and encouraged the beneficiary students to take their studies seriously and avoid engaging in social vices on campus.

“We now live in a competitive world and so you need to take your studies seriously to enable you come out with better certificates, this is the only way you can place yourself at the job market in the country”, he said.

“This is the first phase of the initiative, the second phase is in the process for onward disbursement,” he added.

Hon. Mustapha Ussif, also revealed his readiness to support students who are willing to pursue Medicine, Professional Law and therefore urged those from the constituency to contact his office for support.  

“I want to assure you that any student who gains admission or is willing to pursue Medicine or Professional Law will be given a full scholarship package,” He promised.

The minister in his remarks indicated that his priority as an MP is to empower the youth through education indicating that education is the key to human development, and also to ensure development in his constituency, hence the decision to support the students.

He reiterated his commitment towards developing the area, and thus urged the youth in his constituency to take advantage of the numerous youth initiatives rolled out by the government including the Youstart, National Youth Volunteers Program, Ghana Enterprise Agency’s grant for SMEs, and Agriculture/Agro-processing agencies among others.

Speaking after receiving the funds, some of the beneficiary students who could not hide their happiness thanked the MP and pledged to use the monies for the intended purpose.

Meanwhile the MP also used the occasion to distribute eleven wheelchairs to physically challenged persons in his constituency.
