We want justice for our children-Residents of Kakpagyili.
The Chief and residents of Kakpagyili, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region are calling for justice for two boys whose bodies were found in a vehicle behind one Alhaji Madaha’s house.
The residents suspect the children were allegedly murdered for ritual purposes.
They are also calling for the release of an uncle of one of the deceased who is in police custody.
According to the residents, the uncle had gone to the police to lodge a complaint on the said incident but was detained.
It will be recalled that bodies of the two children were found on 30th June, 2024 in an abandoned vehicle in one of the compounds within the Kakpag’yili community.
The children were reportedly missing on 25th June, 2024.
Narrating the incident to the media, the Assembly man for the area, Alhaji Hafiz Andani said the children aged between 4-5 years, went missing after going to Alhaji Madaha’s house to eat on 25th June, 2024.
He said a search for the children was launched in the evening of the same day for the missing children but yielded no results.
Alhaji Hafiz Andani said the families of the deceased confronted Alhaji Madaha and he confirmed the children ate at his house but denied knowing their whereabout.
He said on 30th June, 2024, the bodies of the children were discovered in an abandoned vehicle in one of the compounds close to Alhaji Madaha’s house, a complaint was lodged to the police and Alhaji Madaha was picked up but later granted bail in less than 24 hours.
The Assembly man said the bodies of the two children have been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital Morgue for preservation and autopsy, while investigation continues.
He expressed dissatisfaction about the way the police are handling the case.
According to him, the investigation started on a wrong foot adding that the key suspect was granted bail in less than 24 hours after he was picked up while an innocent uncle of one of the deceased who wanted justice for his nephew was rather detained.
Alhaji Madaha and his family have since left the area.
Some irate youth in the area last night, 30th June, 2024, vandalized and burnt one of his houses and later this afternoon, 1st July, 2024 vandalized his second house.
Nba Wulana, the Spokesperson of the Chief in the area is urging the police to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.
He called on the youth in the community to remain calm while investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the two children.
