Management of the Tamale Technical University has refuted claims that the school canceled the scholarship of some 175 students, rather, the University says the said students were never on scholarships.
A news release from the Public Affairs Directorate explained that, “at the beginning of the 2020/2021 academic year, the Sports Department of the University invited spots men and women for a “justified your inclusion” event, during which talented sports men and women was to be identified for possible admission to the University.”
“Subsequent to this, a request was made by the Head of the Sports Department to the University Management to consider offering scholarships to this class of students (Sports Men and Women), which request was later declined at a meeting of Management and the staff of the Sports Department”.
This portal had earlier reported that, about 175 Students of the University (TaTU) have been left stranded in the school as management stopped them from writing their end of semester examination after canceling their scholarships.
But the statement further explained that, “Prior to this stalemate, a similar issue arose in 2020 where the University Management considered the plea of a similar group of students (Sports Men and Women) to write the semester examination after which they would pay the school fees immediately, however, the students failed to honour their part of the agreement”.
