“We need farm inputs and financial support to expand our farming activities”- NETCAP to government

Women farmers in the five (5) regions of the North, have appealed to the government to assist them with farm inputs and financial support to enable them expand their farming activities in the area.

According to the financial secretary of the Network of Commercial Agriculture Production (NETCAP), Ms. Mohammed Feruza who made the appeal on behalf of her colleague farmers indicated that, women in agriculture within the Northern Regions, are facing series of challenges due to lack of farm inputs and financial assistance, adding, a lot of women who are willing to go into farming business were unable to do so because of the above-mentioned challenges.

She said, it is prudent for government to prioritized the activities of women farmers to enable them improve upon agricultural production.” Women and the youth within the five regions of the North are not lazy. They actually want to go into farming business but the support is the challenge. So, we are appealing to the government to channel his attention on us”.

Speaking exclusively to Diamondfmonline.com, Ms. Feruza explained further that, “we are trying our best to help mother Ghana through our farming business but the challenges we go through is affecting our efforts. Therefore, we demand that women farmers should be properly targeted for inputs opportunities such as tractors, combine harvesters, improved seeds, financial resources and technical assistance among others”.

These, “I believe will lead to the increase of agricultural production among women farmers, and that will also eventually attract more women to join farming business in the country”.

Women are becoming increasingly visible in farm tasks which traditionally have been designated as male preserves.
