“We are not going to deceived the people with gravel, but we are here to find a lasting solution to Gurugu- Jisonaayili road – Felicia Tettey

Northern Development Authority, through the effort of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Sagnarigu constituency, Madam Felicia Tettey has handed over Gurugu township roads project to GBAMBEGU construction firm for construction.  

The project includes the stretch that links Moms Inn from Gurugu and Jisonaayili down to the Fofaana Agro Chemicals where the road is usually flooded will be fixed within the next six months.

The project is part of the 13 projects under Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Program being implemented by the Northern Development Authority.

The Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication (IPEP) was initiated by the Ministry of Special Development was identified by residents in all constituencies in the area after a needs assessment by the NDA.

The Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programmed (IPEP) is a new development approach which aims at providing basic socio-economic infrastructure at the constituency level across the country.

Speaking to the media after the ground-breaking for the construction of Gurugu town roads, the NPP PC for Sagnarigu constituency Madam Felicia Tettey, noted the commencement of the project within this period is necessary, because the absent of culverts has always been rendering many homes flooded during rainy season and also making traffic flow extremely difficult for hundreds of road users who ply the Gurugu-Jisonaayili stretch on their daily basis.

“I’ve live in this area for ten years and I know the challenges people face during raining season when plying this road. This is a constituency that has been voting for one particular party for decades. The time now is for development. I have been saying it; if you want development you talk about NPP because all the promises NPP made president Nana Addo has for fulfilled them. We are on site today to hand over the project to a contractor. We are going to make sure we find a lasting solution to this problem. We are not going to deceive the people with gravel but we are here to tackle the root cause of this problem. We are not going to lie to the people. But we are here because we have the interest of the people at heart”, she stated.

“The people of Gurugu and Jisonaayili should sing with joy because what you want the NPP government has done it for you”, she noted.

She said the construction of the roads and the culvert within Gurugu township will end the decades of struggle of commuters using Gurugu Jisonayili stretch.

Madam Felicia Tettey speaking however admonished the contractor to adhere to the standards and timelines in the execution of the project since rainy season is approaching.

Addressing the media on behalf of the CEO of NDA, the deputy director of cooperate affairs of NDA Alhaji Mubashar stated that the projects are being funded with the one million dollars per constituency promised by the ruling NPP during the 2016 general elections.

He said the NDA intended to execute 13 projects across 22 communities within the Saganarigu constituency, adding all the projects are identified by the community members after a need assessment was conducted by the Northern Development Authority in these communities.

the projects includes health centers, constructions of roads, community water systems, bridges, rural and peri-urban markets, classroom blocks, rural electrification, among others.

The Deputy Director of Cooperate Affairs noted this innovative approach is designed to bring development closer to the people.

“We are here today through the effort of NPP parliamentary candidate Madam Felicia Tetteh and the aim of NDA together with the Ministry of Special Development through president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Adda, is to change the lives of people and bring development closer to the people”, he stated.

Alhaji Mubashar called on the contractor to ensure quality work and desist from using inferior materials on the project.

 “We will be on you all the time and we will not hesitate to abrogate the contract if you fail to meet the six months timeline”, he warned.

He also called on the traditional authorities of both Gurugu and Jisonayili, to support the contractor to execute the project within the stated time.
