Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia begins two day tour of Northern Region

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has begun a two day tour of the Northern Region.

The second gentleman of the land’s first point of call was at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi where he interacted with the king and other chiefs of Dagbon.

The overlard of Dagbon Ndan Yaa – Naa Abukari II, in his welcome remarks, appealed to government to speed up work on the Yendi Water Project to address the water crises in the area.

According to him, Yendi and it’s environs are often hit hard with water crises during the dry season every year, hence it is prudent for government to ensure the realization of the project.

The King bemoaned the water crises and said it remains a major concern to the people of Yendi due to the difficulties they go through whenever it occurs. “I wish to use this opportunity to appeal to government to work towards resolving the annual water crises,” he appealed.

The project which is being funded by the Indian Exim Bank and executed by WAPCOS, an Indian Civil Engineering Company, when completed is expected to bring relief to the people of Yendi and its environs.

President Akufo-Addo, in July 2020, cut sod for the construction of the Yendi Water Supply Project. But after two years on, work is yet to commence.

However Ya – Na, while reminding government about the Yendi Water Project also appealed to government to assist the contractor working on the Yendi-Cheriponi road with resources to enable him complete the road on time to ensure free movement of motorists.

“I wish to appeal to you to add Gulkpegu -Nayilifong in Yendi township to the dualization of the Yendi town road. I am also appealing to you to as a matter of urgency assist the contractor working on the Cheriponi road which is currently in a bad state.”

He commended government for awarding the Tamale-Yendi-Tatali road to a contractor and the dualization of the Yendi township road through the Eastern Corridor road project for which work is steadily ongoing.

The king also thanked the Nana Addo led government for instituting several developmental projects in the region.

For his part, the Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamadu Bawumia assured the Yaa Naa that the Yendi Water Project is on and government is committed to ensuring that there is a lasting solution to the Yendi water crisis.

On the issue of the Gulkpegu-Yendi road, the vice president indicated that, government has awarded the road to a contractor  and very soon the contractor will be on site to commence work.

The vice president as part of his tour also inspected ongoing Agenda 111 project at Wulensi in the Nanumber South District.

The Vice President after inspecting the project commended the contractor and urged him to speed up work to enable him complete the work on schedule.
