UDS MAKES GHANA PROUD AGAIN

The University for Development Studies has made Ghana proud by winning gold in men’s football at the West Africa Inter-University Games in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. UDS defeated the Bayero University of Kano 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time in the grand finale played on Saturday.

The director of sports for UDS who doubles as coach of the side Ibrahim Tanko’s men started the competition on a high after they defeated the Bayero University 4-0 in their first match. In their second game, UDS defeated Abuja State University 5-0 and came up against the host university, that is the University of Port Harcourt and won 1-0.

In the semi-final, UDS came from a goal down to defeat Kano University of Science and Technology 2-1 to set up a final with the Bayero University who had also managed their way into the final.

In the final, it became “all Nigeria universities” against UDS as they aimed to ensure UDS doesn’t leave Nigeria with the trophy. But their quest did not materialize as UDS came up tops.

This is the second time in a few months that the UDS has brought honour to Ghana in games they have participated in. In July, UDS made Ghana proud at the All Africa University Games in Makelle, Ethiopia by placing fourth in the overall ranking of the 58 participating universities in Africa ahead of the University of Ghana who placed fifth.

Congratulations to the director of sports, Ibrahim Tanko and the entire team for this wonderful performance.
