A Tamale District court has remanded two persons into police custody for allegedly stealing prepaid meters belonging to the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo).
The two suspects are Mohammed Sualisu and Mohammed Osman.
Mohammed Sualisu is said to have been on the wanted list of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) since last year for allegedly stealing prepaid meters of customers in the region.
He is alleged to have stolen several prepaid meters from their customer’s homes and was charged with stealing.
Mohammed Osman who was charged with dishonest allegedly led a NEDCo official to Mohammed Sualisu as the individual who retailed a stolen prepaid meter to him.
The court presided over by His Worship Amadu Issifu remanded the two into police custody, to reappear on Friday, September 10, 2021.
The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) Public Relations Officer, Alhassan Ababa, lamented that illegal connection and meter theft has taken a major toll on the operations of the company.
“This menace if not checked will lead to the collapse of the company. We are therefore appealing to the general public to help NEDCo combat all antisocial activities from our various communities to guarantee the survival of the sole electricity distributor in Northern Ghana.”
