South Africa High Commissioner to Ghana, Ms Lulu Xingwana, has assured Ya-Na Mahama Abukari II of her commitment to encourage South Africa farmers to invest in the agricultural sector in the Dagbon State.

She said this would increase food production to ensure that Dagbon was the nation’s food basket and also promote rapid development in the area.

Ms Xingwana gave the assurance when she called on Ya-Na Abukari II at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.

She said South Africa had the comparative advantage and experience in commercial agriculture, animal husbandry and other agricultural areas that could help the North of Ghana through the partnership.

The High Commissioner said Ghana was a generous country, and played a front-line role during South African struggle against apartheid.

This she said led to the opening of the South African Embassy in Ghana within a month after the inauguration of the then President Nelson Mandela, adding that, “Since then, the relations between the two countries had been growing stronger and stronger every day.”

Ya-Na Abukari II on his part thanked Ms Xingwana and her delegation for the visit adding that the people of Dagbon were working to position the Kingdom as one of the preferred tourists and investment destination in Ghana.

According to the Ya-Na, the people of the Dagbon State had buried their differences and now set the grounds to deepen the peace, and unity for accelerated development.
