Member of Parliament for Tolon, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, has launched an Educational Endowment/ Trust Fund to support brilliant but needy students in his constituency.
The educational fund dubbed “Soya Lana,” the first of its kind in the constituency is expected to benefit over 1,000 students in the area and an initial 150 students were the beneficiaries at the fund’s launch.
The MP said the move formed part of concerted efforts to empower the youth most especially the underprivileged to gain higher education.
Alhaji Habib Iddrisu who is also the deputy Majority chief whip in a statement, said the Fund was a scholarship scheme to provide financial support to brilliant but needy students in the Tolon Constituency.
“Many students in the Tolon constituency face a lot of financial challenges so I am making it a core mandate to ensure that every student gets easy access to tertiary education regardless of his or her financial status. It is for this reason I will mobilize funds every year to support qualified students,” he stated.
The Tolon lawmaker emphasized that, the fund will provide guidance and counseling services regarding education and career choices to students in the constituency.
He indicated that, the fund will absorb 50% of total fees for male and 100% fees for females and students with disability who gain admission into tertiary institutions.
Meanwhile the MP for Tolon has also presented 50 anti-venom snake supplements to the Tolon District health Centre, alongside a photocopier, printer and a desktop computer to the Tolon District police office.
Alhaji Habib Iddrisu also presented 20 motor bikes to the Tolon District Assembly for onward distribution to all departments in the assembly.
