There’s nothing wrong with old parliamentary chamber – Deputy Minority Leader

Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi has revealed, he sees nothing wrong with the current Parliamentary Chamber to warrant a new one.

The Parliamentary Service Board proposed the building of a new 450-seater chamber in Parliament to accommodate more members

The Ketu North Member of Parliament explained that although the new Parliamentary chamber will accommodate more Parliamentarians in the coming years, its timing is wrong.

“We need to always plan ahead, there is nothing wrong with building a new Parliamentary chamber, it will help in accommodating more MPs in future,’Klutse Avedzi exclusively told Kwame Tutu on Anopa Nkomo on Accra based Kingdom FM 107.7

The 450-seater new project has been awarded to renowned British-Ghanaian architect, David Adjaye, but Parliament is yet to determine the total cost of construction.

The new structure is expected to have libraries, a parliamentary museum, prayer areas for MPs of all religions, a canteen, interview areas, among others.

The current parliamentary chamber which can seat up to only 270 MPs, will be turned into an auxiliary conference facility for Parliament.
