The member parliament for the Tamale north constituency, Alhassan S Suhuyini has refurbished the choggu health center, in fulfillment of a pledge during the electioneering period.
The project, which was facilitated under his share of the district assemblies common fund, also saw the construction of a reproductive and child health service center for residents of choggu in the Sagnarigu municipality of the Northern region.
The Choggu health center had never undergone any renovation works, ever since it was established some ten years ago.
At a ceremony to officially hand over the facility to management of the facility, the MP noted that the health of his constituents particularly women, was of prime interest to him.
Alhassan Suhuyini revealed that, hence his intervention was to halt the ordeal of health professionals posted to that community, who attended to patients particularly lactating mothers and children under the unfavorable weather conditions.
“During my visit to this facility during the electioneering period, my attention was drawn to the fact that babies as young as 2 or 3 weeks old, brought here for examination are at the mercy of the weather under these trees, even when it drizzled”. He said
“That alone discourages some mothers from examining their children, which is a major requirement. The babies could suffer from killer childhood diseases, when they miss the care they get when brought to the facility”, he added.
Director of health services for the Sagnarigu Municipal area, Abraham George on his part, lauded the MP for the kind gesture. He expressed optimism that the provision of the reproductive and child health service center and renovation of the main health post, would greatly impact on service delivery of professionals at the facility.
Community members who witnessed the handing over ceremony, benefited from a free health screening exercise at the facility.
