Tamale North MP Alhassan Suhuyini donates relief items to flood victims in his constituency

The Member of Parliament for Tamale North Alhaji Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini has, handed over assorted emergency relief items to the victims of flooding in some communities in the Tamale North.

The items include student size mattresses, bundles of used clothes, 100 bags of cement, 30 bags of rice, boxes of cooking oil, blankets, and 100 pieces of treated mosquito nets.

Unusual heavy rainfall this year has caused major devastation in parts of both Tamale Metropolis and Sagnarigu Municipality in the Northern Region the situation, leading to the destruction of property worth millions of Ghana cedis, and raided several people homeless.

Affected communities at the Tamale North include Kalpohini, Nyanshegu, Fuo, and Gumani both in the Sagnarigu Municipality.

Alhassan Suhiyini also tour some of the affected communities and later handed over the items to the community elders and the constituency executives of National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be distributed among the affected victims in the area.

Addressing the media the Member of Parliament for Tamale North however describe the NPP government led by Nana Addo as clueless government who has failed to resourced the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to carry out its mandatory duty in the country.

He indicated that, some parts of Tamale North experience flooding situation in 2019 as a result of both Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly and the management of Urban Roads failure to dragged and desilt the major storm drains in the area.

The MP claimed that he use his Common Fund to carry out dragging and desilting exercises at some major storm drains in 2018, and so the area never had flooding situations in 2018.

“Just because am unable to carry these activities in 2019, see how the people are suffering? I was thinking that having demonstrated by using my Common Fund to carry out the dragging exercises in the area, the government of NPP would have been responsible enough to provid the necessary funds to either Assembly or Urban Roads to carry out the dragging exercises. Unfortunately, they have failed the people”.

He also indicated that the NDC as a party led by the former president John Dramani Mahama is committed to deal with the factors that led to the floods and deaths in the area retained in power come 2020.

“I want to assure them that, there is hope and the hope is in the NDC that has never abandon them even in the absent of permanent solution that has provided tempered solution”, he assured.
