Tamale Metropolitan Assembly failed to elect a Presiding Member

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) was on Wednesday March 30, 2022 failed to elect a Presiding Member following the two aspirants inability to garner the required votes needed to take up the position.

This was after both contenders failed to attain two-thirds of the total valid votes as required by law.

Mohammed Alhassan Yogudoo who is incumbent, and also Assembly Member for Nakpanzoo electoral area polled 31 votes while Mohammed Abdulai Rashad, a government appointee and also representative of N’yab Gulkpe Naa had 28 votes.

The Assembly had 62 members however, only 59 members were present during the voting at the Assembly Conference Hall.

Assemblymembers after they failed to elect the presiding member held several meetings to deliberate the way forward, but the deliberations did not yield any good result .

The elections has been adjourned to be conducted within the next ten days

Meanwhile, several members in an exclusive interaction with Diamondfmonline.com expressed worry about the assembly’s failure to elect a Presiding Member adding that “the situation will hinder development within the Tamale Metropolis”.

“Now that we have failed to elect a Presiding Member for this house, we don’t know who is going to convene the next meeting for the election”, one assembly member complained.
