The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has commended Technical University Teachers for their role in shaping the country’s transforming agenda through Education.

He said Teachees are at the centre of national development, for which, Technical Universtity Teachers are playing their role effectively by imparting knowledge and advancing technical research.

Dr. Adutwum made the commendation in a speech read for him by Prof. Erasmus Nunoo, who is the Deputy Director, Ghana Tertiary Education Council (GTEC) at the 48th Delegates Congress of Tertiary Universities Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) in Tamale.

Delegates from all Technical Universities across the country took part in the congress which was held on the theme: “The Role of TUTAG in Fostering Harmonious Employer-Employee Relations for Sustsinable Development.

According to the Education minister, the government is ensuring that needs of students are well catered for hence, is bridging the technical divide through investing heavily in technical education and also providing adequate resources for conducive teaching and learning on campuses of education.

Turning over to the congress, Dr. Adutwum commended TUTAG’s leadership for advocating for good conditions of service for its members.

He said although there were still challenges, being able to organise a congress will provide an opportunity to grow the association and foster a good environment for teaching, learning and promoting research as their mandate outlines.

The sector minister further urged TUTAG leadership to be well informed on issues, so that they can always come to the negotiation table well prepared. Also leadership should consider having an institutional memory through documentation of processes and activities to guide their future operations.

National President of TUTAG, Professor Uriah S. Tetteh, for his part said the leadership has been on a continuous journey towards excellence.

Prof. Tetteh said TUTAG chose the theme to promoting harmonious relations on campus hence, the congress afforded an opportuned time to share insight, chart new paths including the way forward to building a strong and vibrant association.

Earlier in his welcoming address, the Vice Chancellor of Tamale Technical University, Prof. Bashiru Ibn Saeed encouraged TuTAG to always pursue the path of changing minds and changing lives which will lead to a change in the larger society.

He added that as expected of Technicsl Universities, the must be present, be punctual and be actively participate in shaping the national discuss.
