TaMA Commissions 20 seater toilet facility for the people of Aboabo

The Management of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) in collaboration with the Gapo Enterprise, has handed over a modern twenty (20) seater toilet facility to the people of Aboabo electoral area.
The opening of the toilet facility is in line with the assembly’s measures to end open defecation within the Metropolis. The facility has two well-furnished offices where male and female attendants would operate from.
Speaking on behalf of the management of the Assembly, the public relations officer (PRO) of the assembly Mr. Amadu Mustapha Zakari, expressed the hope that the commissioning of the facility will go a long way to improve sanitation issues in the community.
The PRO while commending the contractor for ensuring a decent work also urged the opinion leaders of the Aboabo electoral area to own the facility to enable the assembly to replicate the same in other localities.
On his part, the Presiding Member of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, Hon Okasha, denied the assertion that the management of the assembly has sold or lease certain public toilets to private persons.
According to him, the management of the assembly never sold any toilet facility to any developer. “What we normally do by law is that we will get in touch with any developer who shows interest to take care of the facility, because the law of the country is now to ban the assembly from putting up public toilets within the country, and this has given the private developers the opportunity to come in with their proposal. And when we go through their proposals and it is line with our operations, then we agree with them to take care of the facility in order to improve sanitation within the localities”, he narrates.

Meanwhile, the management of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly after handing over the facility to people of Aboabo electoral area also cut sod for the construction of another twenty seater toilet facility for the people of Gumbihini electoral area.
