Suhum clash most unfortunate and barbaric, Alan speaks.

Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen has condemned violent clashes between some supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Suhum, in the Eastern Region on Saturday, August 28, 2021, describing it as “most unfortunate and must be condemned by all well meaning Patriots”.

According to him, rumors circulating that the clash was between his supporters and supporters of the Vice President are “not only completely false, but mischievous and have been contrived to bring both the Vice President and my good self into public ridicule”.

“I condemn without reservation this barbaric act of some members of our great party” he stressed.

In a press statement, the Trade and Industry Minister said “I believe strongly that any disagreement whether relating to a contest for position or differences in ideas and opinions should not be manifested in such violence in a party such as ours”.

“The ideals of our party and tradition call for peaceful and harmonious coexistence and our motto, (Development in Freedom), has no place for violence” he added.

Mr. Alan Kyerematen therefore “urge the Suhum Constituency Executives, the Eastern Regional Executives as well as the National Executives of the party to take  immediate steps to resolve the differences between the two feuding sides to restore peace and discipline in the party”.

Meanwhile Police in the Eastern Region are in a manhant for one Jamalo who is believed to be the driver of the Suhum MP for allegedly slashing the head of another member of the NPP with cutlass during the melee on Saturday.

The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh told journalists that “The Suhum Police Command is investigating a case of causing harm that ensued on Saturday, August 28, 2021, around 5pm.”

“Whiles the members of the NPP in the Suhum constituency were mourning a colleague at the Suhum Council, a misunderstanding ensued between some party communicators and the followers of the MP, and in the process one Jamal inflicted a deep knife wound on the head of the victim, one Kwasi Amoani 51, and the matter was reported to the police and the complaint was subsequently taken to the Suhum Government Hospital where he is responding to treatment at the emergency ward.” he narrated.
