Some residents of Tamale have expressed concerns about the novel Coronavirus also known as COVID-19 virus and are calling on government to intensify education and sensitization on safety and precautionary measures to help cartel the spread of the virus.
According to them, several people are not aware of the signs of the virus and also do not have any knowledge on the preventive measures.
A visit by Diamonds news team to the business district of the Metropolis revealed that though the inhabitants are aware and scared of the virus they are still going about with their businesses without any precautions.
Many of the people who spoke to the news team were going about with their daily schedules without hand sanitizers, nose masks or hand gloves.
Expressing their concerns through www.diamondfmonline.com , the residents suggested that, the appropriate authorities should extend public education on the deadly virus to the various lorry stations and market centers in the Metropolis.
They also urged government to development relevant educational materials using local languages to enable all class of persons benefit from the education.
The residents lamented about the bizarre increase in prices of hand sanitizers and mouth masks in the markets.
They claimed that, ever since the COVID-19 virus was recorded in Ghana prices of these essentials has strangely gone up and accused the pharmaceutical companies and some individuals of hoarding the products to make abnormal profit.
Meanwhile, a visit by the news team to some shopping centers in town including Melcom revealed that management had put in place some measures to protected their costumers and staff.
At Melcom shopping center, management had stationed a veronica bucket at the entrance where all costumers are directed to wash their hands with detergents before going into the shop.
