The management of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust
(SSNIT) has presented a cheque for GHS500,000 to the National Pensioners
Association.
The donation is aimed at supporting the Pensioners’ Medical Scheme to cater for the health needs of its members nationwide.
The presentation was done at a short ceremony held in Kumasi on Monday, 21 January 2019.
Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Board Chairman of
SSNIT, who led the management to do the presentation reiterated that it
is the desire of the Trust to see their pensioners alive and well.
He said the presentation was in fulfilment
of a promise the management of SSNIT made at the latter part of last
year to support the medical scheme of pensioners.
This presentation brings to GHS800,000 the
total amount of support SSNIT has given to the Pensioners’ Medical
Scheme in two years.
The new board of SSNIT, upon the assumption of office in March 2017, pledged to prioritise the welfare of the pensioners.
The management took the first step in the
fulfilment of the promise and presented an amount of GHS300,000 to the
medical scheme in 2017.
The 2017 donation contributed to the eye and
optical care coverage for glaucoma, cataract procedure and spectacle
subsidies; eulogical and gynaecological conditions and the purchase of
drugs not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Dr Addo-Kufuor commended the executives of
the National Pensioners Association for putting the funds into asset
management to attract interest so it can cover more beneficiaries.
Mr Edward Ameyibor, the General Secretary of
the National Pensioners Association expressed gratitude to the
management of SSNIT for the donation and thanked them for the support.
