A renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Mohammed Al-Habib Dawud, has appealed to Education Minister Hon. Haruna Iddrisu to pay special attention to the Islamic schools across the country.

According to him, the Islamic schools in the country are on the verge of collapsing hence it is prudent for the government to prioritise the sector by recruiting more Arabic teachers into the various Islamic schools to improve the situation.

“Our Islamic schools are now gradually erasing to be English-Arabic schools because of the lack of Arabic teachers”, he said.

Shiekh Al-Habib, made the call when he was delivering a sermon at the Masjidul – Salaam Mosque during a Friday congregational prayer in Tamale.

He expressed regret that with the introduction of the English/Arabic Schools more attention had been placed on the teachings of the English language to the detriment of Arabic.

The Islamic cleric noted that the Muslim Quranic schools were purposely established to instill in the Muslim youth the principles of education and that any practice contrary to that would be defeated that purpose and should be discouraged.

He said the soaring of indecent and immoral behavior among the Muslim youth was as a result of the continued decline of Arabic teachings within the Islamic schools.

The chief Imam of Masjidul – Salaam Mosque while calling on Education Minister also prayed for him and his government to succeed.

Sheikh Al-Habib in his sermon also urged Muslims Umah to desist from disclosing a sin they commit against Allah to others.

“If you speak about your sin and flaunting it openly in front of your friends, it’s prohibited in Islam, and it’s a major sin”, he explains.

He further stated that “exposing sins in Islam is one of the ways of spreading immorality among the Muslims, encouraging evil and tempting others to do similar things”.
