Seven institutions take part in the maiden edition of Diamond Corporate Arena 2024

A total of seven corporate institutions in Tamale participated in the maiden edition of the Diamond Corporate Arena 2024, organized by Diamond FM, Tamale.

The event which took place at the Magnolia Recreational Centre on Saturday, 1st June, 2024 had Bank of Ghana (BOG), Bayport Savings and Loans, Goil PLC, Baobab Micro Finance, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) and NORSAAC vying for honors and the bragging rights for the next year.

The specific events in contention were Football, Sack Race, Lime and Spoon, Oware, Ludo, Playing Cards, Table Tennis, Apple Eating, Tag of Peace, Draughts, Armwrestling, Directors/Managers Challenge and Swimming. The day was however started with an aerobics session for all participants in order to keep fit and warm up for the games. 

 In the football competition, the day begun with the first match between Baobab Micro Finance and DVLA. Baobab Micro Finance proved superior by defeating DVLA by 1-0 to advance to the semi-final. In the second football match, NEDCo defeated NORSAAC by 2-0 to book a semi-final slot against Baobab Micro Finance. The third match of the day saw Goil PLC come from a goal down to beat Bank of Ghana by 2-1 to advance to the semi-final where Bayport Savings and Loans were waiting.

In the first semi-final, Baobab Micro Finance beat NEDCo 2-0 to book their place in the final. Bayport Savings and Loans then beat Goil PLC in the second semi-final by 11-10 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time. The grand finale was therefore set for the two financial institutions to slug it out.

However, before the final football match could be played, the other events such as Sack Race, Lime and Spoon, Tag of Peace and Managers/Directors Challenge took center stage. In the Sack Race competition, Baobab Micro Finance emerged winners of the female’s category while Goil PLC won the males event in the Sack Race.

The Lime and Spoon females was won by Bayport Savings and Loans while the male category was won by DVLA.

The Tag of Peace competition was a clean swoop for Bank of Ghana as they won both the male and female events.

Bayport Savings and Loans won the Directors/Managers Challenge. DVLA emerged winners of the Draught competition.

Bayport Savings and Loans again picked up the winner’s trophy of the Oware competition for males.

The males Table Tennis competition was won by Goil PLC. Bank of Ghana emerged winners of the playing cards competition.

Goil PLC also won the Ludo competition for males and Baobab Micro Finance took the Ludo females category. The Apple Eating competition was won by Goil in both the males and female’s category. The Swimming competition was won by NEDCo.

Attention then shifted to the grand finale of the football competition between Baobab Micro Finance and Bayport Savings and Loans. After a thrilling game of football, Bayport Savings and Loans emerged winners with a narrow 1-0 victory to clinch the trophy at stake.

The overall winner of the games was determined by the number of trophies won in total which went to Goil PLC with a total of five trophies won in the entire competition in Ludo Male, Apple Eating both male and female, Sack Race male as well as Table Tennis male.

In second place was Bayport Savings and Loans four trophies won in football, Lime and Spoon female, Managers Challenge and Oware males.    

In third place overall is Bank of Ghana with a total of three trophies won in Playing Cards male and Tag of Peace both male and female.

DVLA and Baobab Micro Finance had two trophies apiece while NEDCo had a solitary trophy in Swimming males.
