Savelugu MP offers agricultural skills training to 500 women farmers.

The Member of Parliament for Savelugu constituency, Hon. Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, has organized a two-day agricultural skills training and agribusiness program for 500 women farmers in the Savelugu constituency, aimed at promoting women empowerment.

The initiative dubbed: “She Grows” brought together agribusiness entrepreneurs, traditional leaders, researchers, development partners, 500 women farmers and persons with disabilities to explore opportunities for advancing women’s participation in agriculture, agribusiness and entrepreneurship.

The “She Grows” initiative implemented through Yooyili Pagdede foundation featured interventions targeted at women with disabilities and livestock rearers including training in adaptive technologies, value addition, poultry management and digital entrepreneurship.

In her welcome address, the Savelugu lawmaker, noted that women had for decades sustained families, communities and local economies through their contributions to agriculture, yet their role remained silent.

“When I look around, I do not simply see a gathering of women. I see the backbone of our local economy. I see resilience walking on two feet. I see determination wearing dusty boots and carrying baskets that have fed families, built communities, and quietly sustained an entire nation — often without recognition, often without reward. She said.

She said the “She grows” initiative through the Yooyili Pag-Dede Foundation, intended to shift the conversation around women in agriculture and entrepreneurship.

“For too long, the story told about the rural woman farmer has been one of subsistence and survival — of just getting by. But that is not the full story. That has never been the full story. Our women are not charity cases. They are farmers. Innovators. Business owners. Economic drivers. They are the architects of a green economy that the world is only just beginning to understand.” She indicated.

Hajia Fatahiya also explained that the “She Grows” initiative would provide the selected women farmers with training in modern agricultural practices, digital literacy, branding and agribusiness management to improve productivity and enhance access to markets.

“We are equipping 500 women from Savelugu and beyond with modern agricultural tools, digital literacy, and premium branding strategies — the kind that turn hard work into high-yielding equity.

“We are ensuring that women with disabilities and local livestock rearers are not footnotes in this transformation, but central to it — with adaptive tools and training for high-value processing, poultry management, and digital roles.” She noted.

On her part the Deputy Minority Leader Madam Patricia Appiagyei, underscored the importance of investing in women farmers as a strategy for accelerating economic growth and food security.

She described women farmers as producers of wealth, protectors of the environment and builders of nations, whose contributions extended beyond food production.

“If we empower women economically, equip them with technology and support them through sound policies, we will unlock one of the greatest development opportunities available to Ghana today.” She said.

The Deputy Minority Leader thus called for increased investments in women-led agricultural enterprises and innovations, noting that the future of agriculture was “female, green, innovative and profitable.”
