Sangaa community in the Sagnarigu municipality in a tango with government officials over who actually provided the community with a dam?

The inhabitants of Sangaa, a farming community in the Saganarigu municipality has disputed claims by the ruling new patriotic Party Government that it has expanded an existing dam in the community under the one village one dam project.

According to the local people, government only constructed a dam at kpanjina also a farming community in the Sagnarigu Municipality, therefore such claims were without merit.

The municipal chief executive of Sagnarigu, Iddrisu Mariam in a Radio discussion, mention that, the ruling party under its one village one dam extended the dam at SANGA, some of the residents speaking to Diamond News, disagreed with the MCE saying the dam was expended in 2017 by the Member of Parliament for the area, Alhaji. A.B.A FUSEINI, but not under the current government.

According to the residents also claimed what has been constructed at kpnjin are not dam but dugouts. They go on to describe work done so far as disappointing

Meanwhile the member of parliament of Sagnarigu constituency, A.B.A FUSEINI, commenting on the issue, describe the claims of the ruling party as unfortunate, saying the dam expansion was a pledge he had made to the people of SANGA.

He stated that, he was taking steps to better the lives of the people of SANGA

“In fact there are a large number of communities benefiting from the dam during dry season and my intention is, with more funding available, we would deepen the dam by taking out the mud out of the dam in order for the dam to contain more water.” He stated

The weather pattern in the northern parts of Ghana is characterised by low rainfalls and prolonged periods of drought. For this reason, farmers in the region, unlike their counterparts in the south, cannot engage in all-year-round cultivation of crops. They also lose many of their livestock because the animals die of thirst in the dry seasons.

The end result of this is the migration of the youth to the southern parts, in search of almost non-existent greener pastures.

To help mitigate this problem, President Nana Akufo-Addo, as flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party in 2016, made a campaign promise to construct dams in every village in the Northern part of the country.
