Salifu Saeed praise media in the Northern Region for its role in the restoration of peace back to Dagbon

The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Sa-eed has lauded journalists across the region for their enormous contribution to the realization of the current waves of peace in the area.

He mentioned specifically their contribution to the resolution of many chieftaincy conflicts especially that of Bunkpurugu and the long standing Dagbon conflict. This he added has led to an increase in investor confidence in the region.

Salifu Sa-eed said peace is fundamental to the development of every nation and the struggle for peace in the country is a shared responsibility for which, journalists as mouth piece of the people, must always trumpet the message of peace in their reportage.

Speaking at the launch of the maiden Northern Regional Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards in Tamale, the minister admonished journalists to always abide by the ethnics of the profession.

The general secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association, Edmund Kofi Yeboah, said the award scheme is in line with the constitution of the GJA which seek to award and motivate hard working journalists across the country.

He however urged members of the GJA not to be driven by the awards but focus on making a positive impact and changing the society for the better. He added that, the media as the forth arm of government must always keep check of government and other arms of the government in ensuring that the interest of the society is always served.

Vice Chairman of the Northern Regional Chapter Yakubu Abdul-Majeed announced that, the awards which will be held on August 31, will comprise 8 categories namely, Young Promising Female Journalist, Peace and Security, Environment, Agriculture, Gender, Child Rights and the Over-all Best Journalist.
