S/R: NPP labels NDC MP as ‘a liar’

The New Patriotic Party in the Savanna Region has labeled the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sawla Tuna Kalba, Andrew Dari Chiwitey as ‘a liar’ over his statement on water projects in the Savanna Region.

The Sawla Tuna Kalba law maker led a press conference of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Northern Caucus in Parliament, where he accused the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for not undertaking a single water project in the Savanna Region.

Andrew Dari while highlighting the number of water projects NPP government initiated within the five Regions of the North, also said “In my constituency, as member of parliament within the five years, I have done over forty boreholes. But the government or Akuffo-Addo and Bawumia did not do a single borehole in Sawla Tuna Kalba – a single borehole in the whole of the Savannah Region”.

But the NPP in the Savanna Region in a statement signed by its Communications Director Issah Mohammed, and copy to diamondfmonline.com however, described the NDC MP statement as “false and palpable lie”.

The NPP Savanna Regional Communications Director in the statement listed the number of water projects in the Region initiated by the current NPP government within their five years in government.

SAVANNAH REGIONAL NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY REACTS TO THE CLAIMS OF HON. ANDREWS CHIWETEY AND THE MINORITY IN PARLIAMENT ON “NO SINGLE BOREHOLE IN SAVANNAH REGION”

Ladies and gentlemen of the media, we warmly welcome you to this urgent but necessary press conference this morning. This interaction is done to as usual notify the media as the fourth estate of the realm and the people of Ghana about the palpable falsehood of the NDC and its surrogates in Parliament. It is also meant to remind the people of Ghana about the incurable taste of the NDC for distortions and fabrications all for petty partisan propaganda.

The Hon. Member of Parliament for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba was the sacrificial lamp used for this falsehood this time around, obviously supported by the Minority in Parliament. Hon. Andrews Chiwetey was carried away by the choreographed chorus of the NDC to attack the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, anytime they get the opportunity to speak to the media. Even without recourse, they kept singing the name of Dr. Bawumia as if they were cursed to do so. It also appears on another note, that the Minority MPs in the Savannah Region have taken over from the palpably incapable arm-chair Regional Executives of the NDC in the Region.

Ladies and gentlemen of the media, the case of the NDC Minority in this matter was to the effect, that the NPP government had not put up a single borehole in any of the Districts or Constituencies in the Savannah Region. This claim is a complete fallacy and I am sure you the media in the Region would testify to the numbers of boreholes and water systems you have visited and reported on with government officials. Aside the wanton disregard for reading, Hon. Chiwetey and his Minority colleagues could not simply appreciate the question they put out to the Minister themselves. Please listen to the question as captured by parliamentary records as below and let us interrogate same.

The question to the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources; How many boreholes and small water systems were constructed by the Ministry between the period 2017and 2020, the locations of the boreholes and water systems and the cost of same.

In the fruitless press interaction of the Minority however, they shamelessly insisted that government had done no borehole in the Savannah Region when their question was simply specific to what the Ministry had done. Even on the Ministry, a comprehensive answer was given but the MP and his NDC colleagues chose to do their usual partisan politics without recourse to the answer provided.

The NDC in the Savannah Region and former President Mahama should be the last persons in this world to start any discussion on water. The Damango water project that happened only on the lips of the only grandson of our revered Yagbonwura who ascended to the Presidency, Mr. John Mahama, is still fresh in our minds. The NDC may wish to desist from provoking the people of Gonjaland further.

For the avoidance of doubt, it is not true, that the NPP government has not done a single borehole or water project in the Savannah Region. In fact, the ruling government has been phenomenal as compared to what the erstwhile NDC government did on the provision of water to the people. May I with your indulgence take you through some of the boreholes and town water projects that the NPP government under the able leadership of H.E President Akufo-Addo and the competent Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has done for the people of Savannah Region.

After Eight (8) years of suffering and deprivation amidst complaints under former President Mahama as Vice and President, The Ministry through Community Water Sanitation Agency(CWSA) has done a facility for the good people of central Central Gonja – Yapei and its environs.

The people of Salaga who hitherto struggled to get water through their taps have a sigh of relief under the leadership of H.E the President and his competent Vice President. Extension of same has been done to Masaka and they shall start enjoying from the governance of their distant brothers- Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia soon; a joy they desired most from their blood brother for 8 good years.

The multi-million dollar Damango water Project that is expected to serve up to about 80% of the residents of the Constituency is ongoing. Compensation is settled as Biwater construction Limited is on ground works.

The West Gonja Municipal under Yenewura Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia has the following;

Drilling and Construction of borehole at Busunu

Drilling and Construction of borehole at Ndewura Jakpa SHS

Drilling and Construction of borehole at Attributo – Damango

Drilling and Construction of borehole at Hangaline

Aside these, the MP for Damango and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor has done more than 20 boreholes in partnership with others across the Municipal-see attached list.

The North Gonja District had the following water systems and boreholes;

Limited Mechanized water system in Yagbon completed (President’ Special Initiative)

GNPC has equally done a mechanized borehole, Small town water system, and 3 Hund Pump Boreholes in Daboya and Sawaba.

The District Assembly has done 4 mechanized water systems in Daboya and Sawaba.

The MP for Daboya Mankargu, Hon. Alhaji Asei Mahama and the District have also partnered other NGOs to get in about 20 drilled and mechanized boreholes.

The East Gonja Municipal has the following water facilities;

Kpembe Town – Mechanized borehole

Kpembe NMTC – Mechanized borehole

Yaagbonso – mechanized borehole

Nfabaso – mechanized borehole

Ngua Mallam – mechanized borehole

Kapatey – Mechanized borehole

The former MP and first ever humble Regional Minister, Hon. Salifu Adam Braimah had put up water systems in about 15 different communities including Kinklin, Sisipe, Matilapo, Kayereso, Dagbamba line, Iddipe and others.

GNPC projects in the Municipal abound in Silmunchu, Kakoshi, Mbawupe, T.I Ahmediyya SHS, Sakafat School etc.

Ladies and gentlemen of the media, please permit me to mention a few water projects done under the nose of the Hon. MP who perpetuated this unfortunate blander. I will challenge the Hon. MP if indeed he knows his constituency well, to do us a favor by either admitting he lied to the people of Ghana or deny the existence of these systems in his Constituency.

Salwa-Tuna-Kalba

A hand pump borehole has been drilled for the people Jang

A hand pump borehole has been constructed for the people of Kong

Jetrekura has also benefited from a water hand pump

Jilinkon – water hand pump borehole

Konkrope – water hand pump borehole

Kpalbe No. 2 and Haakura have all benefited from boreholes from this government

The good people of Sogoryiri have a borehole constructed for them.

The Hon. MP if is well informed should know by now, that there are close to 10 boreholes in Sawla and across the Constituency that are almost complete as well.

 In the Central Gonja District, below are the few water projects captured for the benefit of this press conference;

A borehole in Kigbirpe

Kokope had a borehole

Another borehole in Gbrigi

For Bole District;

A mechanized borehole has been completed for the people of Bamboi

In Mankuma, Mandari, Maluwe, Jama Community and Jama Market, Boreholes have been drilled, stands built and fenced awaiting mechanization.

Banda Nkwanta Community has their borehole drilled

A mechanized borehole in Gbenfu Community has been drilled, stand built, pumps fixed and awaiting a polytank.

The Akufo-Addo Bawumia led government has also put up a small town water system in Kpalbe in the North East Gonja District through CWSA. There are also 2 mechanized boreholes in Bunjai

Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, haven taken you through this eye-opening adventure, it is demonstrably clear, that the Hon. Minority MPs were either ill-informed, refused to read as notoriously known for, or were simply incompetent at their own kindergarten propaganda. Their tales were palpably incoherent and lacked empirical grips on facts. We have amply demonstrated also from the above, that the ruling NPP has significantly done better than the NDC did in their miserable 8years in the Region.

Let it be known, that Gonjaland is not oblivious of the work the Akufo-Addo – Bawumia led government has done for the people. The people have a clear appreciation of the wanton neglect that their Brother, Son, and Grandson, Former President Mahama took them through. They have not forgotten the limbless governance of their own Son, Mr. John Mahama, that refused out rightly to give our overlord and his people water when they complained of thirst. The then Yapeiwura and his people have not forgotten the agony they went through under their own before President Akufo-Addo salvaged them.

The people of Kpembe, Salaga and its environs have no short memories as postulated by former President Mahama in the past. They have not also forgotten the very recent act of their own Son carrying track loads of items and cash to dear victims (about 3000) in Keta whiles over 10,000 of his kinsmen were wallowing in floods without even a visit from him.

I conclude by repeating my earlier challenge to Hon. Chiwetey and his Minority colleagues to either come and deny the existence of these projects or simply apologize to the people of Ghana so to keep their Honorable titles.

God bless Gonjaland and God bless our Homeland Ghana. Thank you for coming.

Mohammed Issah (0244227266)
