S/R – Five communities in the North East District hooked to the national grid

Five communities in the North East Gonja District in the Savanna Region have been connected to the national grid under government’s electrification project.

Among the beneficiary communities are; Lantikpa, Kidengi, Tunga, Kanakulai and Kpalayili. This falls under phase one of the Rural Electrification project promised by President Nana AkufoAddo to the chiefs and people of the Savannah Region.

Speaking to the media after addressing separate community durbars, the District Chief Executive for North East Gonja, Alhassan Abdalla Iddi, advised the people particularly the youth to take advantage of the opportunity of being connected to the national grid to create jobs for themselves and improve on their livelihoods.

He said the connection of the communities to the national grid would pave way for many development projects to be established and also improve economic activities in the area, saying the assembly is committed to ensuring universal access to electricity by the people of North East Gonja District.

According to Abdalla Iddi,, the Sinohydro funded Project in the Northern Region would as well cover the district before the end of 2020.

The DCE thereby urged the people to always pay their bills promptly to avoid been disconnected by NEDCo. The DCE commended the Chiefs and people of the beneficiary communities for cooperating with the contractors and engineers throughout the period. He has however urge the Chiefs and people of North East District to maintain the peaceful coexistence between the various ethnic groups in the area.

He also reminded the chiefs and people of the district to always use dialogue in resolving potential conflicts in the area.

Meanwhile, the Savannah Regional Minister, Salifu Adam Braimah on his part assured the people of savanna region that, the NPP government would ensure all the communities in the region will be connected to national grid.

Salifu Adam Braimah called on the chiefs and people of the area to protect the electricity poles from bush fire.
