The Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mohammed Baantima Samba has stated that he has no contender ahead of the party’s next regional congress scheduled for 2022.
According to him despite the declaration by a former Yendi Constituency Chairman of NPP, Alhaji Inusah Amadu popularly known as Dagomba Boy to contest the party’s regional chairmanship slot in the 2022 Delegates Congress, he is yet to see any serious contender ahead of the 2022 congress.
He said Alhaji Amadu in the previous Regional Congress of the party, secured only three votes in his own backyard (Yendi) hence cannot be his match.
The NPP Regional Chairman stated this on Diamond FM’s Power Drive Show whiles confirming the regional executives’ decision to rally their support behind vice president Dr Mahamadu Bawumia’s candidature to lead the party in 2024.
Chairman Samba hoped for more potential candidates to step forward to contest him for the regional chair position when nominations are opened,.
“I am inviting more contestants, because Alhaji Dagomba Boy in the last regional congress polled only three votes in his own constituency and so therefore I don’t have a contender yet, I need more people to come forward,” he stated.
The NPP Regional Chairman insisted that he had done so much for the party in the last elections, hence is hoping to retain his regional chairmanship position.
“I am going to break the 8 come next year Regional Congress of NPP, I have set my target and I am going to achieve that and so I don’t think somebody can emerge as winner over me in the upcoming congress,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, the former Yendi Constituency Chairman of the NPP, Alhaji Amadu “Dagomba Boy” has vowed to unseat the incumbent Regional Chairman when they go to the regional congress in 2022.
It will be the second time Alhaji Inusah Amdu is contesting to lead the party in the Northern Region. In 2018, he was in the race but was unsuccessful.
