NPP government to open up University education in the country to absorb the first batch of the Free SHS graduates – VEEP

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced government’s plan to establish a satellite campus of the University for Development Studies in Yendi.

According to the Vice President, the Nana Akuffo Addo led government has already had consultations and discussions with the management of the University and work on the satellite campus will commence soon.

During a courtesy call on the Ya-Na at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi to begin his three days working visit to the Northern Region, the Vice President also announced that, government will convert the Pong Tamale Veterinary College into a University of Agriculture.

He said the decision is to open up University education in Ghana and also have enough Universities to absorb the first batch of the Free Senior High School graduates.

The Ya-Na Mahama Abukari in a speech read for him commended President Nana Akuffo Addo for commissioning the Yendi Water Supply Project in July.

The Ya-Na also appealed to the government to consider more infrastructural development within the region to help improve the living conditions of the people.

He specifically mentioned the Eastern Corridor road project, upgrade and expansion of the Yendi Hospital, the Yendi-Saboba road, Yendi – Cheriponi road and the Yendi-Zabzugu-Tatale road.

The Vice President and his entourage also visited the Mion Lana and the Yoo Naa where he introduced all the NPP Parliamentary candidates to the chiefs and asked for their prayers ahead of the December general elections.

The Vice President will on Friday continue with his tour to Saboba and Tatale, where he will address various durbars of Chiefs and people he would be meeting.
