NPP and NDC pledge support for the “Tamale Project”

The Northern Regional executives of the two major political parties NPP and NDC have pledged to support the vision by the management of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) dubbed the “Tamale Project” which seeks to address the growing  indiscipline  in the metropolis.

The regional executives of the two major political parties declared their support after participating in a stakeholders conference on Thursday 29th August 2019 organized by the TaMA.

The stakeholders conference organised by the management of TaMA, brought together representatives from the various security agencies in the region, chiefs, the clergy, politicians and other opinion leaders to deliberate on how to collectively support the “Tamale Project” to ensure it succeeds.

The engagement was also to formerly announce to the stakeholders plans of the Assembly’s leadership to resume the “Tamale Project” and also share ideas on how to go about it.

It would be recalled that the Mayor of Tamale after assuming office at the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, introduced what has now become known as the “Tamale project” aimed at restoring sanity within the metropolis. However, Musah Superior personally suspended the exercise shortly after it had started following disagreement between him and some NPP party executives.

However, speaking on behalf of the Northern Regional executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party at the forum, the Northern Regional  first Vice Chairman of NPP Alhaji Sunday applauded the management of TaMA led by Iddrisu Musah for their efforts to restore sanity within the Tamale Metropolis.

He said the recent crime rate in the metropolis is worrying; therefore the decision by the leadership of the assembly to reintroduce the “Tamale Project”. He said this will go a long way to weed off the criminals adding that “initially, we the regional executives of NPP used to be against this vision which was initiated by the Mayor.”

“Because we thought such a policy will make our party unpopular, but now we understand that it was laudable because we have all seen the current happenings in the metropolis. Therefore, we the executives of NPP are fully in support of the decision by the leadership of the Assembly to reintroduce the Tamale Project to restore the lost moral fiber in the metropolis”.

Alhaji Sunday also called on the regional police command to be on their toes, and name and shame any politician who tries to interfere in their line of duty.  He further urged NPP party faithfuls to desist from engaging with criminals and activities of hoodlums saying, “because we the executives will not come for you when you are caught committing a crime”.

Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the Northern Regional executives of the main opposition National Democratic Congress NDC, the Northern Regional Secretary of NDC Mohammed Abdul Salam also declared their support to the Assembly’s vision and said the city authorities should be neutral in carrying out the exercise.
