NPA sensitize people in Tamale on the safer usage of LPG

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA), in collaboration with the Lyme Haus (Integrated Marketing Communication Agency), as part of measures towards preventing accidents resulting from the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), has on Thursday March 2, 2023, sensitize the residents of greater Tamale on the safer use of LPG.

The nationwide campaign, known as ‘Wo Wɔ Gas,’ also aimed at promoting the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

Speaking on the sideline of the exercise, the Communications Manager of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Mohammed Abdul Kudus, while highlighting the importance of the exercise also urged the public to adopt LPG as an alternative source of fuel either for domestic or commercial purposes to reduce the threat to the environment.

He said the Management of NPA had observed that, Northern Region is among the 8 regions being the low usage of LPG, therefore the sensitization.

“If people can move away from firewood and charcoal use, we are going to reduce the incidence of respiratory related diseases and be able to do some work in our afforestation drive. The adage that says, ‘when the last tree dies, the last man dies’ is what we all are trying to avoid,” he said.

“LPG is easier, faster and cheaper to use than charcoal or firewood.” He stressed.

On her part, the Consumer Services Manager of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mrs. Eunice Budu Nyarko however, cautioned the people against keeping cylinders indoors while cooking, and reminded them that cylinders are supposed to be replaced after 10 years.

She also stated, the need for people to avoid placing empty or filled cylinders near naked fire or inflammable liquid.

The Northern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Baba Hudu, entreated the public to turn off their cylinders when not in use. He expressed the need for the public to observe the safety rules when using LPG to enable them prevent accidents.
