Northern School of Business celebrates 50th anniversary

The Northern School of Business (Nobisco) has celebrated its 50th anniversary on Saturday 26th of November, 2022. The colourful event took place at the school’s sports oval. The celebration was on the theme “Celebrating 50 years of holistic education: the Nobisco story.”

The anniversary recorded a massive attendance from the old students of the school including the Northern Regional Minister Hon. Shani Alhassan Shaibu, the Deputy Energy Minister Hon. Mohammed Amin Adam Anta, Vice Chancellor for the University for Development Studies, Professor Seidu Alhassan among others.

His Excellency Dr Alhaj Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the republic of Ghana who was  the special guest of honor for the celebration and Professor Seidu Alhassan as the guest speaker of the occasion with  Nantong Naa who represented the overlord of Dagbon Yaa Naa Abukari II as the chairman  of the occasion all took turns to address the gathering.

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana Alhaj Dr Mahamudu Bawumia tasked the students of the Northern School of Business to take advantage of the modern-day development of the school to enhance their academic performance since those who founded the school never had such opportunities and facilities as they are now enjoying.

He also urged the students to be discipline which he described as the major concern in our schools in recent times. He further stated that discipline is the hallmark of success and therefore called on all the students to make discipline their number one priority.

The Vice President made these statements in his address to the gathering of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Northern School of Business in Tamale.

The Vice President used the opportunity to also outline some of the achievements the NPP government has chalked in the educational sector.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia expressed his sincere gratitude to the management of the Northern School of Business for extending their invitation to him.

For his part, the headmaster of the school Mr. Alhassan Issah Dokurugu after outlining some number of successes the school has chalked also appealed to the general public, the corporate society, NGOs in water and sanitation and benevolent individuals and the government to come to their aid on some of what he called the ‘critical needs or problems’ the school still faces even as they are marking 50years of existence. He mentioned classrooms, dormitories, toilet facilities among others as areas they seriously need support to provide with the growing number of students annually.

The Northern Regional Minister Alhaj Shani Alhassan Shaibu who also spoke at the occasion promised to take the challenges outlined by the head master into consideration and to work towards finding solutions to them.

The Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies who was the guest speaker for the occasion also advised the students to make discipline their first priority and also stay away from examination malpractices.

The Vice President Alhaj Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia donated an amountof GH₵ 50, 000 to the school.

He earlier on in the day jointly commissioned the newly constructed Home Economics Block built by the Nobisco Old Students Association (NOSA) and also cut sod for the construction of a classroom block for the school.

The newly constructed Home Economics Block is to serve as the resource center for the Home Economics Department of the school and also aimed at assisting the students during their practicals.

As part of the celebration the schools cadet corps treated the gathering to a colourful display of their military rudiments.

Also on display was the school’s dance troupe which displayed their dancing skills much to the delight of the gathering.

Northern School of Business was established in 1972 to promote business education in the Northern Region. The school started with purely Business and Secretarial courses and only recently introduced General Arts and other courses.
