“Northern Scholarship would…- Secretariat

The registrar of Scholarships at the National Scholarship secretariat, Kingsley Agyemang has said with the Northern Scholarship policy that is enjoyed by students from north would not be scrapped with the introduction of the free senior high school education.

He said there were misconceptions that the Northern scholarship policy would be scraped with the introduction of the free SHS policy but explained that the latter was an add-on policy to robe in students who hitherto would not benefited from government’s scholarship.

He said the Northern scholarship policy will still be there for continuing students. Addressing a news conference in Tamale, Kingsley Agyemang explained the details of the free senior high school policy and the Northern scholarship policy.

The registrar of Scholarships also debunked public views that there will be a central system of procurement which will require all purchase including food stuffs to be done in Accra and sent to the secondary schools.
Mr. Agyemang also said the secretariat had initiated several policy reforms that will ensure operational efficiency and elevate the scholarship secretariat to a higher level of professionalism.

He said there has been the computerization of operations at the secretariat and revocation of inherited mode of payment of Scholarship claims.
