Northern Regional Library in Tamale gets Children’s corner to promote reading culture.

Northern Regional Director of Education, Edward Azure, has urged parents and teachers to teach children to read in their formative years to develop strong foundation for their education.

He said parents were best suited to teach their children to develop effective reading to enhance the quality of their education.

Mr Azure stated this during the launch of the Northern Regional Library Children’s corner in Tamale.

The launch was to encourage teachers and parents to assist provide the children with good reading skills at the early stages of their education.

He noted that learning to read early made learning of other subjects easy to understand and fast to absorb, which would enhance their performance in school.

According to him, children had greater general knowledge to expand their vocabulary and become more fluent readers.

The Northern Regional Librarian, Aaron Kuwornu, stated that reading was important for children to develop their language skills.

The Executive Director of the Ghana Library Authority Hayford Siaw, gave assurance that they would continue to provide comprehensive and accessible public library service to promote lifelong reading habits among the citizenry.
