NIA extends Ghana card registration exercise in 3 Northern Regions

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has extended the registration period in the Northern, Savanna and North East Regions to October 30 instead the October 23, 2019 deadline.

The NIA in a statement issued by its Head of Corporate Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration, Francis Palmdeti said all registration centers will continue to register applicants till Wednesday October 30, 2019.

The extension follows numerous challenges that have hit the exercise at various registration centers. These include the late start of the exercise in some centers, absence of logistics and personnel and poor network challenges.

Majority of the registration centers in the Northern Region are yet to process 1000 applicants since the start of the exercise on October 4, 2019 in the region.

The extension will enable more applicants get the opportunity to be registered.

The statement also revealed that, permanent NIA offices will be established across the country by March 2020, to enable those who were not captured during the mass registration exercise to go and be registered free of charge.

Below is the full statement.
