The Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly has begun a tree planting initiative for some selected schools within the Municipality.
With support from the Green Republic Project, a non-governmental organization, the assembly aims at planting about 1,000 mahogany tress within the beneficiary schools.
Municipal Chief Executive Hajia Mariam Iddrisu who disclosed this to a section of the media, after the tree planting exercise at the Sagnarigu girls’ model school said the exercise was to compliment government’s greening Ghana program.
”To compliment the efforts of government in its greening Ghana program, I collaborated with the #GreenRepublicProject, an NGO to plant trees in some selected schools within the Sagnarigu Municipality”.
She also indicated that, the project will not only protect the schools against disaster and climate change effect, but will help secure the schools boundaries from encroachment.
The Green Republic Project is a youth led initiative that hopes to plant over 20 million tress across Ghana by the year 2028 as part of a global effort to addressing climate change.
The project aim, is also to educate the citizenry on the importance of trees and the need to keep the environment clean and healthy.
The Green Republic Project is also urging governments, decision makers and the business community to adopt renewable energy and eco-friendly systems to help preserve the environment.
