NATIONAL CAPACITY-BUILDING WORKSHOP KICKS OFF IN TAMALE TO BOOST AGRO-METEOROLOGICAL ACCESS FOR PRODUCERS

‎A two-day national capacity-building workshop has commenced in Tamale, capital of the Northern Region on Tuesday .

‎The workshop, organized under the CEDEAO ECOWAS and CILSS initiative, aims to equip agricultural producers with tailored weather information to improve climate-smart farming practices.

‎The workshop themed Enhancing Access to Tailored Agrometeorological Information for Producers” opened on 10th February 2026 in Tamale, marking Day 1 of the Regional Project Promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture in West Africa.

‎Participants are engaging in sessions to strengthen their ability to access and use agrometeorological data for better agricultural planning and resilience against climate change.

Speaking at the event, JACQUED ANDRE NDIONE, the regional project coordinator for CSA/BOAD Project and Regional agency for Agriculture and Food Ecowas/ Lome-Togo, commended the government and ministry of agriculture for their impact in the agricultural sector.

‎Jacqued Andre urged the participants to make good use of the training to disseminate accurate information learned with others.

‎On her part the Northern Regional Director of Food and Agriculture, Hajia Samata said about 65% of the population in the Northern parts of the country are into agriculture and mostly affected by climate change.

‎She said if climate change is not tackled effectively, the government’s flagship policies may make little impact in the Northern region.

Addressing the participants, the remote consulting agent for AGRH, Soumana Djibo indicated that the climate change on the West Africa sub region hence the objective

‎He expressed joy over the objectives of the workshop training and urged participants to give off their best during the capacity building.

‎The project is funded by the Green Fund and supported by BOAD, with involvement from the Ghanaian government.

‎The event brings together producers, agricultural experts, and meteorological officers to enhance West African agriculture through informed decision-making and climate adaptation strategies.
