N/R: “NDC Elections Director should bow his head in shame”- Dr Wumbei

A defeated Northern Regional Secretary aspirant of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Abukari Wumbei, has stated that the Northern Regional election’s director of NDC Alhaji Mohammed Amin Abio should bow his head in shame for behaving rudely during the just ended NDC Northern Regional delegates conference.

According to him, Alhaji Abio, during the counting of the secretaryship position ballot papers on Sunday November 13, 2022, turned and make a signal to the supporters which indicated that King Salam won the elections.

“The embarrassment aspect of the elections is when Abio turn and make a signal to the supporters that Salam had won the elections. He should bow his head down in shame. We don’t do that. Because, he was like a referee of the elections. So, why should you jubilate when someone won an election? Does it mean all along he was doing some things against the other candidates? That is really embarrassing. He should be ashameD of himself”, he said.

Dr Wumbei made these comments on Diamond Power Drive on Tuesday November 15, 2022, after losing the elections to Mohammed Abdul Salam who polled 330 votes. He indicated that though he knew he wasn’t winning the elections but the posture of Alhaji Abio during the counting of the ballot papers was appalling.

“I wasn’t cheated. I lost the elections and I have accepted the defeat, and I have since call the elected Northern Regional Secretary of our great party NDC Mohammed Abdul Salam and congratulate him”, he said.

Dr. Wumbei after the NDC Northern Regional elections, had 261 votes, while his main contender Mohammed Abdul Salam polled 330 votes.

The NDC Northern Regional delegates conference after the polls witness some dramatic event after the announcement of the results of the chairmanship position.

The main contender of the position Godfred Apasinaba Sulemana Wumbei who felt he was cheated refuse to accept the results, and subsequently demanded to be sworn in as the Northern Regional chairman of NDC.

It took the joint security force who struggle with the supporters of Godfred  Wumbei several minutes before they could brought the situation under control.

The Chairmanship position was contested by four persons and after the voting on Sunday, Ali John Adolf emerged as the victorious with 247 votes, while his main contended Godfred Apasinaba Sulemana Wumbei, obtained 236. Other aspirants Alhaji Umar Farouk had 9 votes, and Alhaji Ahmed Rufai Velim had 93 votes.
