N/R: Deputy Majority Chief whip accuses NDC MPs for injuring Minister

The Deputy Majority Chief whip, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, is alleging that, some Minority members in parliament who was involved in a fight with his side used razor blade to injured the Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif.

According to Alhaji Habib Iddrisu who doubled as MP for Tolon Constituency said “one of our ministers sustained a cut close to his eyes during the shameful act instituted by our friends from the minority side in parliament. I personally took him to the clinic for treatment of the cut he suffered; infact all his dresses were thorn”.

“Parliament is not a boxing ring. It is not a place to be snatching people’s chairs. If you have a problem, we have rules governing the House. Get up and make your concerns known”, he added.

Hon Habib Iddrisu made these remarks on Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday 21st December, 2021.

The Tolon legislature while expressing his disappointment over the act, also apologize to Ghanaians for the scuffle between his side and minority members in parliament on Monday night during voting on the E-levy bill.   

The MPs shoved, pushed and threw punches at each other, while trying to stop the fight.

The chaos started after opposition MPs rushed forward to prevent Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei Owusu from leaving his seat to vote. He was chairing the session, which was then adjourned because of the disorder.

The Minority in Parliament is rejecting the proposal of 1.75% on electronic transaction, which include mobile – money transactions.

The position NDC says it will hit low-income people and those outside the formal banking sector.

But the Finance Minister Ken Ofori – Atta said it is necessary to wide the tax net, saying it could raise an extra Ghc6.9billion next year.

Meanwhile, the house adjourned proceedings to January 182022, following the repeated drama and fights in the house on late Monday 20th December, 2021.
