MTN Ghana’s Fleet Team undergo Training on Road Safety Ahead of Traffic Tech GH Roll Out Fully Next Year.
The Director in-charge of Education at the Motor Traffic and Transport Division (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Superintendent Alexander Obeng, has emphasized the critical role drivers play in protecting vulnerable road users and reducing road crashes.
He cautioned motorists, particularly private vehicle drivers, against attitudes that expose others to risks, urging them to take responsibility for safer roads.

Chief Supt Obeng made the appeal during a media interaction on the sidelines of a training programme organized by Scancomm Plc for MTN Ghana staff in Tamale.
The training aimed to sensitize employees, including drivers from the fleet department, on the Traffic Tech GH initiative, which will see police traffic enforcement transition from in-person enforcement to IT-related tools such as cameras and scanners capturing offenders and alerting them via phone devices.
Key Highlights of Traffic Tech GH:
- Automated enforcement of traffic violations, including overspeeding, jumping traffic lights, inconsiderate driving, and wrongful parking
- Deployment of cameras and scanners to capture offenders
- Alerts to offenders via phone devices
Chief Supt Obeng stressed that Ghana faces serious road safety concerns, with alarming statistics: between January and October 2025, the country recorded a worrying increase in road crashes involving over 20,000 vehicles, with over 13,000 associated injuries and more than 4,000 human deaths on the road.
He lamented that Ghana’s road safety concerns require urgent and drastic actions, including training and retraining as contained in Regulation 33, Legislative Instrument (LI) 2020, and complementing that with enforcement.
“We can only achieve safer roads through enhancing public sensitization and deepening awareness creation,” he stated. The MTTD is seeking collaborations with corporate institutions like MTN Ghana to enhance knowledge, skills, and attitudes of drivers,” Chief Supt Obeng stated.

The training programme is part of the national Road Safety strategy III implementation, aiming to ensure safer roads. The State is implementing a safe system in road traffic management, consistent with the United Nations (UN) Decade of Action on Road Safety 2030 and the SDGs.
MTN staff participants commended management for the training opportunity, expressing confidence in gaining new knowledge to ensure safety on the road.
