MP for Kumbungu hands over 6-Unit Classroom Block to Ŋɔɤu community

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumbungu constituency Dr Hamza Adam in collaboration with the Wulugu project, has handed over an Ultra-modern full furnish Six-unit classroom block, an office complex and store to the staff and pupils of Nwugo D/A Primary School of the Kumbung District in the Northern Region.

The project was initiated by the lawmaker and funded by the Wulugu Project. The school, has been battling with serious infrastructural challenges for several years.

Speaking at the event, Dr Hamza Adam appealed to government to redirect his attention at the basic schools within country.

According to him, government emphasis is now much on the Free Senior High Schools at the expense on basic schools. “If you go to the primary schools , if you go to the Junior High Schools then, you will see pupils siting on a very deplorable environment. You have the students sitting in a class without furniture, some of them are lying on their tummies while others are sitting on stones to attend to class. This is what we must not see in todays Ghana. And then, we are crying to be chopping successes at the free SHS”, he bemoaned.

He indicated for students to performed better at the Senior High School level, it is prudent for government to redefined his agender.

“I think government will have to redefine it, because we have to build the foundation at the basic level before the students can perform at the SHS level”, he added.

He explained further that, “as an educationist I think government has missed the point. It is important for him to redirect his attention to the basic schools by attending to the primary schools, and junior high schools. When we have a very good foundation I believe when they get to the SHS, they will have a smoother education. But if we have wrong foundation, I think that no matter what we do at the SHS level we will not achieve the needed results”.

The Kumbungu lawmaker while calling on government to redirect his attention at the basic schools also indicated that, the provision of new school block for pupils at Nwugo would go a long way to promote effective teaching and learning in the school.

“Provision of classrooms is cardinal in quality education, because the students will have to be in a conducive environment before learning can be effective. The teachers can also function effectively when they have a conducive environment. And so, I believe that the provision of this edifice will go a long way to improve upon quality education within Nwugo community “, he said.

He said his outfit will continue to knock at the doors of Wulugu Project and other Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) for the needed support to better education in the area. He however commended the Wulugu Project for funding the new block.

Speaking on behalf of the District Director Madam Naa Elizabeth, the District Planning Officer at the District Educational Directorate, expressed gratitude to the MP and the Wulugu Project for their continuous collaborative efforts towards supporting the education sector in the district.
