McDan Group of Companies to build boxing gym training center in Tamale

McDan Group of Companies in collaboration with the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has re-launched the first Amateur Boxing competition in the Northern Region.

Ten amateur boxers faced-off at the Tamale Jubilee Park as part of activities marking Ghana’s 62nd Independence Anniversary.

In the coming years, boxing contests would be held all over the Northern Regional capital Tamale courtesy the McDan Amateur Boxing competition project.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the McDan group of companies, Gubgbaa-Naa Daniel McKorley in a brief speech promised to open a gym center in the northern region to train boxing coaches, referees and boxers in the region.

He explained that his McDan Amateur Boxing initiative is also aimed at creating opportunities for the youth in the north most especially those who are interested in boxing activities.

Chief Gubgbaa Naa indicated that boxing is only known in the southern part of the country and therefore it is important to build boxing gym in this part of the country to produce world champions.

“We are going to produce world boxing champions from this part of the country.” “I will make available the necessary resources to support the project to improve the lives of the youth of the north.” I am here for the youth I want to support them to brighten their feature’’

On his part, President of the Ghana Boxing Authority, George Lamptey who also monitored the competition pledged that, the Federation will give the project the necessary attention to benefit the youth in the north.

‘’We will work closely with McDan Group of Companies to make the project succeed.”

“We need champions from the Northern Region for the 2019 African games and the Japan 2020 world games.”George Lamptey stated.

Meanwhile a cross section of Tamale residents has lauded the initiative since boxing is a lesser known sporting event in the Northern Region, and at the end of the competition the amateur boxers from the northern region manage to win three bouts.
