Malwin Foods, an indigenous company, opens processing plant in Tamale

Malwin Foods, an Indigenous owned company has opened a state of the art food processing centre and products line shop at Dungu, along the Tamale Airport stretch.

The occasion of the launch coincided with the company’s first anniversary.  Malwin Foods are into the production of Shea butter and food spices for the local as well as the international markets.

The launch attracted women entrepreneurs and executives and personalities from all walks of life including business, religion, politics, academia and medicine.

Chief Executive of Malwin Foods, Madam Fatiya Imoro explained that having been in operation for a year, the company chose to open its food processing facility at Dungu to signify growth as an indigenous entity.

Malwin Foods, sources for Shea butter, Dawadawa and Groundnuts among others locally and processes these into lotions and soaps for body care. Apart from this the company offers well packed household consumables products including spices and oils.

Explaining the rationale for starting the company, Madam Imoro said it was response to addressing demands for health conscious and unadulterated food by families and society at large. 

“If we eat what we grow it will help us all since there are numerous health benefits, also we will be helping to create jobs, locally for our people,” she stated.

According to Ms. Fatiya, currently her company employs more than 50 women whose livelihoods situation has improved.

Madam Fatiya Imoro wants government support to boost local production and to save them from imports that the country seems to have a comparative advantage in. Such support if offered by the government to the local industries and entrepreneurs, she added, would help create the needed employment for the country’s teeming youth.

Dr. Frank Serebour, Vice President of the Ghana Medical Association, who chaired the launch, commended Malwin Foods for the idea of promoting health consciousness. He encouraged safety for all consumers in order to reduce preventable deaths and diseases among the population.
