Liverpool Supporters in Northern Region Celebrate their 30year wait for an EPL trophy

Supporters of English Premier League (EPL) side Liverpool celebrated their team’s 30year wait for the English Premier League  title with a party on Saturday night at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.

The colourful ceremony saw hundreds of fans of Liverpool and the crème de la crème of football in the Northern Region in attendance.

It was an event that didn’t quite discriminate as supporters of other notable teams like Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenals, Tottenham, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus in attendance. Of course the usual heckling was ever present but that didn’t mare the beauty of the event.

In an address, convener Alhaj Abu Hassan Mahamadu Rhyzo said the length of time it took for the team to win the EPL trophy was worth celebrating. Adding that it was even sweeter as it had an African presence in players like Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah and Naby Keita.

He assured supporters of the club that more celebrations will come their way especially if they properly constitute their association with the election of interim executives when the covid19 restrictions allow.

The Northern Regional Football Association (NRFA) chairman, said Liverpool’s triumph in the season 2019/2020 EPL had taught him that for one to succeed in life, one needs a combination of leadership, strategic planning, availability of the required human and material resource, discipline and proper execution of the said plans in order to reach the promised land.

Citing the availability of the right human resource as the driver of success, Alhaj Rhyzos said Liverpool had an equally good bench as the starting 11 which helped the team’s success. He mentioned Divock Origi as a “super sub” who helped the team win many games they were either drawing or even loosing. He further cited the team’s American investors, the teams German manager Jurgen Klopp and the recruitment of players such as Virgil Van Dijk, Allison Becker among others to buttress his point.

He called for a similar resolve among the supporters for them to remain united in all that they do.

Alhaj Rhyzo is also the Accra Hearts of Oak supporters chairman in the Northern Region. A position he has occupied for decades.

The event saw coaches, referees, football administrators, old players such as Mohammed Choo (pictured in the feature photo at the start of the story in smock) and chairman of the Sports Callers Association of Ghana in the Northern Region Mohammed Awal Essovalle in attendance.  A special guest was Dr. Alhassan Musah, a staunch Liverpool supporter in the Northern Region who is known by many on Facebook as he reacts to all comments aimed at trolling Liverpool.

The event was chaired by Vice Chairman of the NRFA, Mr. Ibrahim Musah Kessie. In his closing remarks, he teased Liverpool that the next gathering of that nature will be to celebrate Manchester United’s victory in the season 2020/2021.
