The Executive Director of Health, Education, Research and Policy (HERPol-Africa), Dr. Osman A, Dufailu has stated that there is the need for governments on the continent to take research seriously in order to address the covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking at a media engagement in Tamale organized by HERPOL-Africa’s strategies towards dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic in the communities, Dr. Dufailu who is also a lecturer at the University for Development Studies (UDS), said “policy makers should begin to prioritize research and not rely on wholesale approaches that may have worked elsewhere and that includes search for vaccines for Covid-19.”
“With regards to policy makers, there is the need for them to take research seriously. They don’t have to take wholesale approaches that have worked elsewhere. They need to understand our problems so that they can use appropriate resources to address our peculiar problems. Policy makers contribute to the misconceptions and I believe when you cook your333 own food, you trust what you eat,”Dr. Osman Dufailu emphasized.
HERPOL-Africa is an NGO established in 2018 to educate, empower an inspire communities through providing research based solutions to promote development.
Among others the NGO has been involved in Dyslexia awareness in schools in the Tamale metropolis alongside promoting maternal, mental health and sexual and adolescent reproductive health.
In the areas of COVID-19, HERPol – Africa through MasterCard Foundation is helping to reach out to vulnerable communities through relevant data collection, imparting attitudinal and behavioral change approaches and also giving empowerment and skills training in nose masks and liquid soap productions to make the beneficiaries economically independent while helping to deal with the virus spread and building resilience.
