The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumbungu constituency, Professor Adam Hamza, has presented 1,746 mathematical sets to candidates sitting this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) in the Kumbungu District.

The gesture formed part of the measures the MP had taken to ensure no candidate in the district lack basic learning materials as required for the exams.

In his remarks, Professor Hamza expressed his disappointment in the government over the delay of payment to WAEC to begin the BECE examination.

He indicated that the misplaced priorities on the part of the government is one of the factors that led to delay of funds to the WAEC.

The NDC lawmaker thus charged the government to prioritize the release of funds to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) for Basic Education Certificate Examinations scheduled for July 8, 2024.

According to him, it is prudent for the government to prioritize the educational sector, most especially the West African Examination Council WAEC.

“I want to urge the government to prioritize the release of funds to WAEC, whether it is very crucial because if we fail in the conduct of the examination, we fail as a nation.”

He revealed that those who marked the exams papers last year and the invigilators are yet to receive their allowances, hence the call.

The MP while thanking the teachers in the district for their continued efforts toward uplifting the standard of education in the area, also advised the candidates to make good use of the items donated to them.

In his remarks, the Kumbungu District Director of Education Yahaya Sulemana, commended the MP for the gesture.

He said the district last year recorded 80% passes, and “this year we are assuring you that with this support, we are targeting 100% passes”, he said.
