Kumbungu MP commissions another 6-Unit Classroom Block at Dalung

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumbungu Constituency in the Northern Region Dr. Hamza Adam, in collaboration with Wulugu Project has on Friday July 24, 2022 commissioned a full furnished 6-Unit classroom block for Dalung Model D/A Primary at Dalung in the Kumbungu District.

The (6) six-unit classroom block with an office, a store room, toilet facilities and wash rooms were an initiative by the MP, and fully funded by the Wulugu Project, to aid the transformation of education in the community.

It also aimed at creating a conducive teaching and learning environment for both teachers and students so that they can concentrate on their studies.

The school has been battling with serious infrastructural challenges for several years and this has forced the school authority to hold lessons under trees.

Speaking at the ceremony to commission the school at Dalung, the NDC lawmaker in his remarks commended the leadership of Wulugu Project for continuing to partnering with him to address the infrastructural challenges facing the schools in his constituency.

He noted that, the decision by government to abolish Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) levy at the public schools has affected the schools’ authorities in mobilizing resources to manage the schools, and this has led to series of challenges facing the schools across the country.

He said development in schools is collective efforts, and thus include all stakeholders hence, it is prudent for parents to be allowed to also add their quota in this regard.

Dr Hamza while highlighting the benefits of PTA levy to the schools said “PTA is a platform that provide opportunity for parents to be able to contribute their quota towards the development of schools and by so doing they will appreciate their contribution and value what they are contributing, and this will compel them to pay more attention to their wards in the schools”.

According to him, government after abolishing the PTA levy promise to provide the schools with capitation grants to enable the schools’ authorities carry out some maintenance in the schools, but this has not been done for several years. “I think government should go by his wards by regularly providing the capitation grants to the schools to enable them carryout some development in the schools”.

Dr. Hamza also explained further that education is a very important area that should not be politicize, therefore it is important for government to provide text books to cover the new curriculum that was introduced by government in 2019.

“Government has introduced new curriculum in the basic schools and for since 2019 till date we don’t have text books for the schools to learn. I think that was not fair enough. Education is the very important area that we cannot be politicize. We have to face the facts and deal with the real issues”, he said.

He further urge headteachers and teachers within the Kumbungu District to increase their commitment towards handling the pupils under their care in the district.

On his part, the country director of Wulugu Project Solomon Nachin Naa in his open remarks, urged the community members and the school authority to strive hard to maintain the facility for the benefit of the students and the community as a whole.

He said the Wulugu Project would continue to partner with the MP to provide the necessary development for the people of Kumbungu District.

Meanwhile, the Kumbungu District Director of Education Madam Bernadette Kafari, on her part expressed gratitude to the MP and the Wulugu Project for their continuous collaborative efforts towards supporting the education sector in the district.

She urge parents within the Kumbungu District to put more efforts towards their ward’s education.

The ceremony was attended by the country Director of Wulugu project, District Educational Director, Deputy District Director, Chiefs, Elders, Women, Staff of the school, pupils, party supporters among others.

The Kumbungu legislator as part of his efforts towards uplifting the standard of education in his constituency has within one year in office initiated and completed series of developmental projects under the educational sector.
