Kumbungu MP commissions 2 boreholes for communities
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumbungu constituency, Professor Adam Hamza, through the support from the Sadaqahti African Foundation, has handed over two mechanized boreholes to two communities within the Kumbungu District.
The boreholes were commissioned for the people of Shaduwa, a farming community in the Kumbungu District, and Limam fong.
The facility is aimed at addressing water challenges experienced in the areas most especially during dry season, which adversely affects women and school children.
Professor Adam Hamza at the handing over ceremony, thanked the leadership of Sadaqahti African Foundation for the support.
He said the provision of the boreholes will go a long way to relieve residents most especially women and children who trek several miles in search of good drinking water.
Professor Hamza in his remarks thus urged the people to own the facility by ensuring that it was properly taken care of and regularly maintained to continue to serve them.
He also charged members of the beneficiaries’ communities to form committees to regulate the usage of the facilities.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of Shaduwa, Sumaila Sulemana, in his remarks said the provision of the facility was a great relief for the community as it had ended their daily struggles in search of portable water.
Some of the women of the beneficiaries’ communities also narrated how they struggle in search for portable water daily, saying “With the inauguration of this facility, we can now have access to good drinking water. Our children will not miss lessons in school because of water shortage.”
They expressed gratitude to the MP and pledged their commitment to protect and maintain the facility to ensure it continued to serve them.
