Kumbungu Constituency: Namdu Community gets health center

The Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Constituency, Dr. Hamza Adam in collaboration with the Qatari Charity Organization has commissioned a fully furnished Health Facility with essential medical equipment and supplies at Namdu, a farming community of the Kumbungu District in the Northern Region.

The provision of the health facility formed part of the MP’s efforts to ensure access to quality health care delivery especially among women and children in the area.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the MP noted that, Namdu and its adjoining communities were in dire need of the health post since community members’ most especially pregnant women sometimes lose their lives as a result of luck of a health facility in the area.

“We all know health access is very important, because a lot of people lose their lives as a results of luck of health facilities, or health facilities being a distance away from the community, especially our mothers, we have had a number of cases where in the process of trying to give birth some of them lose their lives because of luck of health facilities,” he said.

He observed that, the health facility which has a delivery room, male and female ward, an Outpatient Department (OPD), will address the issue of maternal mortality in the area. “This particular facility which has a delivery room would make it easier for our mothers to be able to attend to health care and deliver peacefully when they are in Labour.”

He thus urged the people of Namdu and its adjoining communities to patronize the facility to improve their health status. “I encourage all my people to take full advantage of this facility and keep the place busy, don’t let this beautiful facility waste.”

Dr Hamza in his remarks explained further that, “provision of health facilities to my constituents is one of my main priorities, hence the decision to continue partnering with benevolent institutions to ensure access to basic health care services as well as promote good and healthy living in my constituency.”

The MP reiterated his commitment towards supporting the Kumbungu District Health Directorate. “I will continue to provide support to the health directorate and its workers at the facility so that they can keep the facility busy and continue to provide quality health service to our people, he added.

He also used the occasion to appeal to government to consider revisiting the issues affecting the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to ensure holders of the NHIS card had quality health service at the various health facilities across the country.

He commended the leadership of the Qatari Charity Foundation most especially its Country Director Ahmed Abubakari, for ensuring the completion and commissioning of the facility.

On his part the Country Director of the Qatari Foundation, Ahmed Abubakari, assured the MP of their readiness to continue partnering with him to develop the area.

Meanwhile the Kumbungu District Health Director, Madam Adam Seidu Barikisu, on her part while thanking the MP for his efforts at improving healthcare services in the area, also assured the MP of her readiness to post staff and provide other essential drugs to the facility.

On their part, the Namdu Community members who could not hide their happiness also thanked the MP for the numerous developmental projects he has sanctioned in the district and their communities since taking over.

“It has not been easy for pregnant women to deliver in the past due to the absence of a health facility,” a community member affirmed.

Some others described the MP as a symbol of hope and development and asked other community members to put the politics aside and rally behind him.
