Korle Bu Allied Health Professionals call off strike

Allied Health Professionals at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have called off their planned strike following assurances from management to address their concerns.

The group had threatened industrial action over management’s failure to establish an Allied Health Services Directorate and appoint key leadership for the hospital’s laboratory services.

Speaking to the media, General Secretary of the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers Union (MELPWU), Dr Sephas Kofi Akortor, confirmed that the decision to suspend the strike was based on commitments made by hospital management.

He explained that management had demonstrated goodwill by agreeing to take immediate steps to address the issues raised by the union.

“Management has promised that they are going to appoint the Laboratory Manager in an acting capacity within one week. Within one month, there will be a competitive selection process so that the person who emerges becomes the substantive office holder,” He stated.

Meanwhile, the Board Chairman of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Titus Beyuo, assured that the resolutions will be implemented to ensure the establishment of the directorate.

“All the issues that were brought up were basic administrative concerns, some appointments they wanted made and some directorates they wanted created. As management and as a board, we are committed to resolving these issues,” he said.
